Summer Reading 2023: Find Your Voice!

Read books and complete activities to earn badges!

Every badge comes with a piece of a puzzle (aes 0-7) or the clue to a mystery (ages 5 and up).

Record your activities online, or with a staff member at the Meekins Library.

Children may have to choose a program. 

Ages 0 - 7: This program is intended for children who are not yet independent readers. Every badge comes with a piece of a simple jigsaw puzzle. Identify the characters in the puzzle to earn a special prize!

Ages 5 and up: This program is for independent readers. Each badge comes with a clue to a mystery. Solve the mystery to earn a special prize!

Register for the Summer Reading Program, record hours read and activities completed, and collect the badges and clues you have earned.

Escape the Haydenville Library Ghost
By appointment only - call or email to schedule
There is a ghost trapped in the Haydenville Library! Will you be able to follow the clues and find what she left behind before time runs out?
Recommended for ages 7 & up. Families encouraged.

Storytime with Rochelle
Tuesdays 10:30 - 11 am
Join Rochelle for fingerplays, songs, picture books, and circle games for preschoolers and their caregivers.
Recommended for ages 0-5.

Summer Reading Kickoff, with Karaoke
Saturday, June 17th, 10 am - Noon

Celebrate the beginning of our 2023 Summer Reading Program: Find Your Voice. Sign up for our Summer Reading Program. Sing karaoke, do a craft, and collect your first badge of the summer! Featuring live karaoke for all ages!
All are welcome.

Scavenger Hunt
June 20th - June 27th

Stop by the library to complete a self-guided scavenger hunt in and around the building.
Recommended for ages 5-12.

Anime Night
Thursday, June 29th, 6 - 8 pm

Watch anime, draw anime or manga characters, and eat snacks. Share your artwork, or just watch the show.
Recommended for ages 10 and up.

LEGO / Stop Motion Club
Saturday, July 1st, 10:30 am - Noon

Build with LEGO and/or try your hand at making a LEGO Stop Motion Video! Lego, tips, and support will be provided, but movie-makers will need to bring their own devices.
All are welcome. Children aged 5 and under should be accompanied by an adult.

Make Your Own Play Dough
Thursday, July 6th, 3 - 4 pm

A fun sensory activity, using simple kitchen ingredients. We will be using food coloring to dye our dough, so dress for a mess!
Recommended for ages 3 - 8.

Improv Workshop with Sea Tea Theater (Registration Required)
Saturday, July 8th, 10:15 - 11:30

Find your improv comedy voice! Play a variety of improv games that will get you thinking on your feet and laughing in the aisles.
Registration Required.
Recommended for ages 8 - 13

Junior Yarnspinners Bootcamp
Sunday, July 9th, 4 - 5:30 pm

Learn to fingerknit, knit, or crochet. Work on a current yarn project, or find a new one.
For needleworkers of all ages.

Dungeons & Dragons (Registration Required)
Tuesday, July 11th, 2 - 5 pm
OR Saturday, July 15th, 10 am - 1 pm

This standalone adventure will be offered twice--please choose either Saturday or Tuesday, and registration is required.

For kids entering grades 4 and up.

Melted Crayon Art
Thursday, July 13th, 3 - 4 pm

Create a piece of colorful abstract art or jewelry using old crayons.
Recommended for ages 10 -16.

Yoga Sanctuary (Registration Required)
Tuesday, July 18th, 3 - 4 pm

Sara from Yoga Sanctuary will be visiting to lead a fun session that will help you listen to your body and find the power and greatness inside you.

Meekins Magazine
Thursday, July 20th, 3 - 4 pm

At the end of Summer Reading, the library will be putting out a free literary publication, Meekins Magazine. Come help with the layout, or use the time to contribute your own stories, poems, or artwork.
Recommended for ages 8 and up.

Interactive Movie Night
Thursday, July 20th, 6 - 8 pm

Enjoy an interactive family night at the library, following along with a popular movie. Snacks will be provided.
Recommended for families with children who enjoy movies.

Boardgames
Saturday, July 22th, 10 am - Noon

Join us for our monthly boardgame program! Play an old favorite, or find a new favorite!
Players of all ages (3 -103) are welcome.

Beads (and Buttons)
Tuesday, July 25th, 2 - 3 pm

Make beaded jewelry or bead art, or design your own buttons using our button maker.
Recommended for ages 5 and up.

Make Your Own Madlib
Thursday, July 27th, 3 - 4 pm

Learn how to write your own madlib-style fill-in story to share with your friends.
Recommended for ages 10 and up.
