Ask an Archivist Day!
October 14 @ 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
October is American Archives Month. It is also Family History Month, National Cookbook Month and National Cookie Month among many others. Want to preserve those wonderful old family photographs and letters? Collect your quirky family tales and legends? Save those cookbooks with your grandmother’s special notes? Find a vintage recipe for that favorite cookie you remember—to make it to share with your family and friends? Figure out something about the street you live on in town?
Come to Meekins on Wednesday, October 14th from 3-7 pm and Ask an Archivist. Meekins Archivist, Daria D’Arienzo, will be here to answer your questions, share advice about preserving your family papers and stories, offer tips for exploring the library’s Local History and Archival Collections, or just to talk about any and all things historical and archival.
Archives hold the stories of people, families, communities, and more. Archives connect people—to their past—to their present—and to their future and to each other. Archival materials are the documentary evidence of lives and events, and the facts used to interpret those lives and events. They don’t have to be big and fancy. They are the things created during the everyday lives and actions of everyday people and organizations. They offer direct insights into the events as lived—and can be as simple as a recipe for a favorite family soup or even a text witnessing a memorable event. Saving your story today makes a difference. What is your story?
Come to Meekins on October 14, 2026, for Ask an Archivist Day and ask your Archivist.
