Art Exhibition Opens: Sky & Light

November 3 @ 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM

Stop into the library during open hours this November to see our newest exhibit, Sky & Light, by local watercolor artist Katie Rosenblatt. Learn more about Katie’s artistic inspiration, creative process, and the natural world that inspires her work in her own words below;

My work focuses mainly in watercolor painting that is inspired by the land around me. My ideas grow form a quiet devotion to the natural world. The fleeting moments that sometimes pass by unnoticed. A solitary observation that lets time slow. I am influenced and inspired by many artists such as Joan Mitchell, Duchamp, Kandinsky, and Van Gogh. The images I paint are also greatly inspired by music such as Debussy and the piano compositions of George Winston. I enjoy working in watercolors because this medium lends itself to expressive mark making and has its own language. I try to explore abstract expression as well as figurative qualities in my drawings and paintings. I use color to show emotion as well as the linear expression in my work. Color is very important to me and I believe it deeply expresses unspoken feeling, emotion, fleeting moments and is the true charm of nature. I like to paint in themes of color using a monochromatic palette and also in bursts of bolder colors with complementary shades and contrasting hues. I find great joy in rendering the natural world and trying to replicate the beauty of colors within.
