Look closely at the windows of the original 1896 Meekins Library and what do you see? Beautiful leaded stained-glass transoms above the large clear glass windows below. The historic granite building was well lit—with 18 large windows (each about 8’ x 4’) set in pairs throughout. The frames on the inside are oak veneer with simple classical detail. Art Nouveau designs in the transoms characterize each window group. The current Riverside Room and Picture Book Room lovely, stylized blue and green flowers that pop out against pink and yellow background. The front John and Alta Black Reading Room is graced by three yellow, red, blue, and black window designs of books, scrolls, and an inkwell with a stylized quill pen. Come in and see the beautiful window art at Meekins. #throwbackthursday; #tbt
