Libraries want you to know that their books belong to that library—so you always find the name of the library somewhere on book you borrow. Practices have changed over time, but an ownership stamp of some sort is still added to every item. Early on, the Meekins Library embossed each volume in the collection with this heavy metal embosser. This volume of poems by William Dean Howells bears the mark of the Meekins stamp.

Meekins no longer uses it, but the embosser remains a reminder of past practices, safe in the Meekins Archives. How do you note ownership of your books? A signature? A bookplate? A colorful stamp? Share your practice in the comments. Daria D’Arienzo, Meekins Archivist. #throwbackthursday; #tbt.
