You can walk through the “New” Village Hill Cemetery at any time of year, and it is always stunning—Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Though formally established in 1874, the town’s largest cemetery is privately operated, and was in use decades earlier. More than 5000 townsfolk have been buried and memorialized in this garden cemetery at the first rise of Village Hill, including 13 victims of the Mill River Disaster in 1874. Today it is a peaceful oasis, where those visiting deceased loved ones and those who have just strolled through the iron gates can have a few quiet moments in this picturesque setting.
