Visit the Meekins Library and see the “tiny” artwork on display under the Bacon Rotunda. Community members coming together to create tiny art, was the pet project of Technical Services Librarian Meghan Doyle, who was inspired by other public libraries that had undertaken something like this.
Seen, as Meghan said, as “something that everyone could enjoy regardless of age”—it was the intergenerational focus of it that appealed to her.
Given a blank 3-inch x 3-inch canvas to work with, the invitation offered a venue for to all kinds of creativity, with no limitations on structure, format or media. The single requirement that the design fit on the tiny canvas—so that all ages could enjoy the final creation. Simply, you did not have to be an artist to join in—you just had to have an idea and a willingness to bring that idea into being.
Apparently, the idea of tiny art with an intergenerational heart appealed to others as well. The community response has been wonderful and a bit overwhelming. Patrons have contributed more than 50 artworks in all media, inspired by nature, memories, books, local scenes, fantasy and just plain fun. And already, people are coming in to look at this crowdsourced exhibition and enjoy the range and variety of the creative work of other townsfolk.
Join in the fun. The “Tiny Art” exhibition will be up for all of February 2026. Come to the Meekins on Tuesday (10-6), Wednesday (1-7), Thursday (3-6) and Saturday (9-2) to enjoy it. See what your friends and neighbors have done with these tiny canvases. You will be amazed and inspired. Daria D’Arienzo, Meekins Archivist. #throwbackthursday; #tbt.
