Meekins is decked out in autumnal splendor. As October ends and November approaches, it is becoming “cozy” time—good for hanging out at your community library, inside and out. There are still golden afternoons, great for sitting in the sunshine in the comfortable chairs and benches by the river. Tables and umbrellas (and wifi) are still out on the brick patio.
Meekins itself is festive for fall. Autumn wreaths hang on the doors. Local mums are bright yellow against the granite steps of the historic building and at the door of the new entrance. Thanks to generous neighbors, there are vivid orange pumpkins and cornstalks standing tall. Flowers in the planters continue to bloom adding more color and cheer. Wander around the Meekins grounds on your stroll around town. Then come inside.
There you will find shelves full of fun fall books, and now a whole table of spooky Halloween tales. There are plenty of magazines and newspapers to read while you enjoy the fireplace bedecked with whimsical signs of the season. Enter a raffle to win your very own handmade octopus or another to win a free pass to a local museum. Find a seasonal DVD, check out a ghost story or just stop in for a visit.
Come to the Meekins and read a good book outside in the last of the autumn sunshine or curled up inside in a cozy chair next to a sunny window. The library is open Tuesday 10-6, Wednesday 1-7, Thursday 3-6 and Saturday 9-2. We hope to see you soon. Daria D’Arienzo, Meekins Archivist and photographer. #throwbackthursday; #tbt.
