A festive seasonal tradition for more than 15 years, this annual Library event brings community members young and young at heart together in the historic Meekins to read vintage holiday classics and soon-to-be-classics, which celebrate this winter season.

Our joyful custom continues this year, on December 8, 2024, from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. in front of the fireplace in the Library’s John and Alta Black Reading Room, with stories that are old favorites and those that may be new to you that could become favorites. We will read these stories:

  • The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry
  • Owl Moon by Jane Yolen
  • Finding Christmas by Lezlie Evans
  • The Christmas Owl by Ellen Kalish & Gideon Sterer
  • On the Shortest Day by Laura Sulentich Fredrickson
  • The Mitten by Jan Brett
  • All-of-a-Kind Family Hanukkah by Emily Jenkins & Paul O. Zelinsky

Everyone is welcome. For many, this has become a seasonal family tradition. Whether you are returning for another year, or this will be your first time, join us to read or listen and enjoy warm homemade treats. If you can, bring something to share in the Williamsburg Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors Pantry, or a warm something for the Meekins annual clothing collection. Daria D’Arienzo, Meekins Archivist and photographer. #throwbackthursday; #tbt.
