Who doesn’t love a parade?! Help us identify this one. No one knows exactly when the world’s first parade happened—but parades or processions have been a celebratory tradition for millennia. There are famous modern parades like the New York City Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, various St. Patrick’s Day parades, the Rose Bowl Parade, and the New Orleans Mardi Gras. But it is the local Williamsburg and neighboring town Memorial Day parades, and Fourth of July parades and Halloween costume processions that are the most beloved here. Hilltown anniversaries have been celebrated with parades for decades—and remembered for decades more. Townsfolk of all ages enjoy the creativity, energy and fun of hometown parades and have life-long memories being both part of the parade and watching from the side. The Meekins recently received this postcard of a rural parade. Even though the back is printed with “Photo Post Card by M. P. Clark, Chesterfield, Mass.,” the location and occasion are not identified. Share your memories and photographs of your favorite parades here. And if you can, help identify this mystery parade.
