In 1971 the town of Williamsburg was celebrating the 200th anniversary of its founding in 1771 and the Meekins was turning 75! By 1971, the Munson gray granite building, built in 1896, had been a stately presence in the center of town for three-quarters of a century. Today, in 2021, at age 125, Meekins remains the elegant library it was designed to be—and now includes the 2003 addition that expanded the space for books and people and community activities and exhibition spaces. The surrounding gardens and grounds have also been a gathering place for town friends and neighbors throughout these years. Daria D’Arienzo, Meekins Archivist. #throwbackthursday; #tbt
