For years now, the Meekins Library has been a spooky haven for town Trick-or-Treaters. From scary pumpkins—to spooky stories—to ghostly ghosts—to big bowls of treats—the Meekins welcomes all the ghouls and goblins that haunt Williamsburg on Halloween night.

This year, 2025, Meekins will be open Friday at 6 pm on Halloween night, immediately following the rag shag parade on North Main Street. Trick-or-Treaters and their families are welcome to stop in and enjoy the festivities and treats.

You can also visit the Day of the Dead memorial altar by the old fireplace in the Black Reading Room. November 2nd is the ancient Mexican feast, Day of the Dead or Día de Muertos, remembering family and friends who have gone before us. Long ago, Meekins adopted the annual tradition of creating a shrine that gathers photographs, mementos, candles and flowers in memory of lost loved ones and inviting our Meekins patrons to share. Who do want to remember this year? Bring your mementos to the Library and add them to the shrine.

Start the festivities early with the rag shag parade in Haydenville on Thursday, October 30th, beginning at 6:00 pm. The parade lines up at 5:30 at 4 South Main Street and ends at the American Legion Post 236 on Bridge Street. The American Legion will be holding their annual Halloween event for children, upstairs in the Legion Hall.

Halloween is whole town fun, with many opening their halls and homes to Trick-or-Treaters and their families. Come see the great costumes and enjoy the fun. Daria D’Arienzo, Meekins Archivist and photographer. #throwbackthursday; #tbt.
