October arrives, the leaves turn, and the Friends of the Williamsburg Libraries hold their anxiously anticipated annual book sale on the lawn of the Meekins Library (or occasionally in the Grange Hall—see the 1990 photo). Traditionally this largest book sale in the hilltowns, is on the second weekend in October, when the town is bright and festive in colorful autumnal splendor. This year it is on the Saturday and Sunday of Indigenous People’s Weekend, October 12th and 13th, 2024, from 9 am to 2 pm, rain or shine.
Tents are put up. Tables are piled high with books, books, and more books. You will find fiction, biographies, histories, art books, cookbooks, novels for teen, and lots of children’s chapter books and piles of picture books. Come and browse for one book or fill a specially made book bag to the brim. Friendly Friends volunteers will share their favorites—just ask. Pick out a special book for your grandmother or your best friend or your children, or even indulge in a bag of books for yourself. Browsing books is fun for all ages.
You never know what treasure you will uncover to take home. Rain or shine—come to the library lawn for the annual book sale. This year be part of this long-standing Meekins tradition. Daria D’Arienzo, Meekins Archivist. #throwbackthursday; #tbt.
