September 2025 is Happy Cat Month—a time dedicated to celebrating the importance of our cherished companion cats. The month offers a chance to focus on the health, welfare and safety of our feline friends. It is also a chance to read the wonderful cat-themed books and watch the cat crazy DVDs that Meekins has available in the collection—many now on display.
This month we remember Sadie, the library’s late (1995-2008) well-loved cat. Autumn was her favorite time of year, and she even inspired the seasonal children’s book “Pumpkin Cat” by Ann Turner.
In honor and remembrance of all special cats—here is a serendipitous gallery of cats much loved by their Meekins “people”:
- Carol—the dive-bombing cat
- Layla—Queen of the gold chair
- Nermal—the Garfield comic namesake—”very cute”
- Marc—who is a big cuddle bug
- Odi—who was beloved & Coco—his true friend
- Admin—the late bossy cat & Reggie—who was very loud!
- Appaloosa—who is very astute
- Gossamer—a very cheery feline
- Sycamore—a rather complicated cat
- Liza Jane—just the sweetest cat
- Zeke—the late cat with big attitude
