As the 2024 winter solstice approaches, and as we look to 2025, the Meekins wishes happy holidays to our local and extended library community. Meekins is grateful that we have been able to serve our patrons in so many ways, since 1897.
It is the season of light. Outside, Meekins is dressed in her winter finery. A great big evergreen wreath graces the old wooden door. Sparkling white lights line the walkway and deck the trees next to the patio and the tiny evergreens on the historic steps. Meekins shines in the winter moonlight.
All around, the town is bright with lights. Enjoy this virtual seasonal stroll through town in its winter finery. Across from Meekins in the center, the Market, the Bank, and Tangle shine in the night. The bright red doors of the Grange sport large evergreen swags. The General Store is festive and the lampposts on Main Street are all bedecked and shining. Reindeer have gathered at the water trough at the Public Safety Complex. There is a large evergreen wreath at the Veterans Memorial. Even the Church wears simple green wreaths with purple bows. Around the edges of town flashes light and color. And the holly and evergreens look lovely on a winter day.
And while outside there may be snow and rain, inside the Meekins is warm and toasty. The fireplace is festooned with lights, seasonal books are on display and the new book alcove is ready for browsing. On a cold winter day, come in and explore some town history, find a DVD to escape the weather, or get a cozy read to start the new year. We are waiting.
The Meekins Library will be closed on Tuesday, December 24th, 25th and on January 1st. We are here on December 26th, 28th, and on the 31st (from 10-2). We start the new year on January 2, 2025.
Meekins wishes the best of the season to all our townsfolk, friends, and neighbors near and far. Daria D’Arienzo, Meekins Archivist and photographer. #throwbackthursday; #tbt.
