Do you remember Sadie, the much loved Meekins library cat? Sadie purred loudly when children visited—taking a break from her official job as the library’s “Chief Mouser.” Sadie started off as a stray, but her life improved when the Meekins adopted her in September of 1996. Sadie’s frequent birthday parties were the social events of the year—with meow music and cat masks for all! Sadie was immortalized in the 2004 Ann Turner book, “Pumpkin Cat,” the story of a stray cat that comes to live in a small town library with two librarians, Lisa and Rochelle. The library was Sadie’s home for 13 years. She was laid to rest in the garden on May 24, 2008, surrounded by her library family and friends who will always remember her fondly. #throwbackthursday #TBT
