Although Meekins had a beloved library cat, Sadie, the library has always been (well-behaved and leashed) dog friendly. Over the years canines of all sorts have paraded through the Meekins—some for longer times than others—but all were welcome. The late, loved Julie Christie Corgi, was alpha director dog for years. The elderly Gypsy Lurcher Eva, who in her youth loved hula hoop jumping and groundhog catching, was an early library companion. Peaceful and good-natured Lab Hopi was a Reading to Dogs and patron favorite. Handsome and happy shaggy Howard loves the kids at the Holiday readings and still has socially distanced outdoor visits. Curious Copper with his shiny red coat, always greeted everyone when he arrived and loves a treat. Smart Spaniel Frances, sitting up tall, keeps the library book-keeping on track. The regal Shepherd Ollie, just recently passed, directed library operations from the remote library COVID headquarters. And now stately, yet playful, Shepherd Charlie rules the roost and keeps all the librarians on track, navigating this new library world. Has your dog been a Meekins Library visitor? Add their names and photos to the parade in the comments! #throwbackthursday #TBT

Please note: Once we reopen Meekins will welcome service animals only.
