April 19-25, 2026, marks the 69th National Library Week. Joy is the theme this year—the joy of connecting with your own library, both physically and virtually, as a place of community, creativity, learning, exploring inspiring library resources (…all those books, DVD, programs, computers, crafts and more…), and fun.
National Library Week was inaugurated by the American Library Association in March, 1958, with the theme “Wake Up and Read” (see a history here). For almost 70 years, the week has been observed across the county to celebrate the ways our nation’s libraries and librarians contribute to building information and life skills, health, and happiness for people of all ages in their communities.
Defining joy as a “deep, long-lasting state of contentment, peace, and resilience that comes from within, independent of external situations,” the 2026 theme “Find Your Joy” encourages library patrons to discover what sparks joy in them by exploring the resources of their library.
If you literally want to find something with “joy”, “joyful”, “joyous”, or an author named “Joy” at Meekins, you have 65 items to choose from. If you want to expand your search to include Meekins’ digital sources for books, movies, magazines, podcasts and more in Libby, Hoopla, and Kanopy, that number jumps to about 3,770 items! So, this National Library Week, come “Find Your Joy” at Meekins, browsing the stacks, talking with a librarian or visiting virtually. Daria D’Arienzo, Meekins Archivist. throwbackthursday; #tbt.
