The original granite Putnam & Bayley Meekins Library was built in 1896 and remains an iconic structure in the center of Williamsburg. One hundred and seven years later, in 2003, the library was expanded. The addition, designed by Michael Rosenfeld, Architects, added bright and airy open areas and more space for the collections, staff, exhibitions, and community events. Blending the old and the new on beautiful grounds with gardens designed by Nick Dines, the Meekins remains a strong presence in our town both day and night. Returning through time, let’s look outside and inside the Meekins when it opened its “new” doors in 2003. (And a few other shots too.) Enjoy the tour. What do you remember?
