Stop into the Neil Hammer Gallery this month to see the latest photography exhibit, “Take Two.” The gallery features work from local photographers Deb Lohmeyer, Larry Rankin, Bob Solosko, and Jill Toler.

Exhibit statement: We are four valley photographers who enjoy working in monochrome and color. When developing a photo, we know when the image feels complete either in black and white or in color. Then we proceed editing the version we prefer. However, often we find equal satisfaction in both the monochrome and the color photo, finding both compelling and evocative though each elicits a different response. Typically, we decide and choose one over the other to exhibit.

In this exhibit “Take Two,” we have selected both monochrome and color versions of the same image. We want the viewers to recognize their different reactions to the paired monochrome and color images. Do they inspire different emotions? If so, how or why? Given both are quality works, is one preferred over the other? Do others agree? These are a few of the questions we as photographers ask ourselves.
