SUMMARY:DECEMBER EXHIBITION: Crochet Coral Reefs
DESCRIPTION:AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING DURING OPEN HOURS THIS DECEMBER. \n\n\n\nRicki Carroll\, 74 years young\, grew up in Englewood NJ\, went to The Boston Museum School and Tufts Univ.\, taught art for grades K-6 and moved to Ashfield in 1975. Carroll started the New England Cheese Making Supply Company in 1978\, gaining the status of “The Cheese Queen” in the process. \n\n\n\nCarroll has worn the hats of\, mother\, grandmother\, entrepreneur\, artist\, gardener\, Ashfield Park Commissioner\, event planner\, volunteer at Abbie’s School in Culebra\, PR. She has clowned in and decorated hospital rooms\, created art and played with her own cancer\, carved hearts on the outsides of her house\, hosted Village Harmony musical summer camps\, hosted many house concerts and written two books on cheese making. \n\n\n\nCarroll has been snorkeling in the waters off the island of Culebra for 45 years amidst the varieties of living coral. Over the years she has witnessed the death of the reefs\, broken and bleached corals and a decline in the number of fish and turtles from her earlier days there. \n\n\n\nDuring COVID she learned about the ‘Crochet Coral Reef’ project begun by Christine and Margaret Wertheim for the Institute for Figuring\, a project responding to Climate Change and the global community based on applied mathematics and evolutionary theory bringing people together from all over the world\, and taught herself how to crochet. \n\n\n\nCarroll invites her audience to look and think about what is happening in our world’s oceans and consider some of the actions being made to try to save them.

SUMMARY:NOVEMBER EXHIBITION OPENS: Greg Bodnar Fine Woodworking
DESCRIPTION:AVAILABLE FOR VIEWING DURING OPEN HOURS THIS NOVEMBER. \n\n\n\nStop into the Neil Hammer Gallery to see the latest exhibit. This month\, our featured artist is local woodworker Greg Bodnar. \n\n\n\nBorn in New Jersey in 1957\, Greg worked as a carpenter for 10 years after graduating high school before going to Leeds Design Workshops and learning from master cabinet maker\, David Powell. He then apprenticed to Frank Klausz\, a master cabinet maker from Hungary. \n\n\n\nGreg won an honorary mention at the Quilts & Fine Woodworking show at the Pioneer Museum\, Colorado Springs\, won 1st prize in the contemporary furniture class at the Design in Wood competition at the San Diego County fair. He also won an honorary mention in the open carving class. He has been published in Current Work in the June 2001 edition of Fine Woodworking magazine. \n\n\n\nArtist Statement: As a young boy I grew up in the woods. I learned to love the forest\, building tree forts and bow and arrows. My reverence for the trees spills over into my work. I believe in the American Craftsmen. \n\n\n\nAvailable for viewing this November during open library hours. \n\n\n\nWe also invite you to join us for an artist reception on Saturday\, November 15\, 1:00 P.M. – 3:00 P.M.
