SUMMARY:Banned Together Film Screening
DESCRIPTION:Local documentary film maker\, Kate Way\, is going to be screening her latest film Banned Together at Meekins Library on Sunday\, March 15 at 3:00pm. \n\n\n\nThe film pulls back the curtain on two of the most controversial issues in America today: book bans and curriculum censorship in public schools. Banned Together follows three students and their adult allies as they fight to reinstate 97 books suddenly pulled from their school libraries. As they evolve from local to national activists – meeting with bestselling/banned authors\, politicians\, Constitutional experts\, and more – the film reveals the dark forces behind the accelerating wave of book bans in the U.S.

SUMMARY:Artist Reception: Sketchbook Translations
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a reception featuring December’s featured artist\, Cyndy Sperry. \n\n\n\nIn this exhibit\, artist Cyndy Sperry translates small moments from different sketchbooks into large\, tapestry-scale collages. The pieces incorporate woodblock prints\, silkscreen imagery\, charcoal figure drawings\, painted papers and leftover student work from the summer program at Sugarhill Art. The New England boreal forest\, rocky Maine Coast\, paintings by Edward Hicks\, the lions of the Ishtar Gate and Processional Way from Babylon\, and Piero Della Francisca’s Adoration weave into the work…as well as many walks in the woods and river swims alone and in good company. \n\n\n\nAvailable for viewing this February during open library hours.
