Springtime Horticultural Workshops Series

Certified arborist & horticulturist, Jim McSweeney offers a series of 3 workshops in Chesterfield to benefit Meekins Library, suggested donation $10.00/person/session
Tree Care Basics
Separating the fluff from the facts, he will cover site evaluation, plant selection, planting techniques, watering, mulching, pruning, natural pest control and more. This workshop will take place at Jim’s home/office where he has dozens of edible and ornamental trees that have been planted in the last ten years.  Portfolio. All participants will receive a copy of the guide “Tree Owner’s Manual” by the USDA, which covers all the topics we will talk about and more.

Maine teacher and writer, David Arenstam, honors
 Williamsburg native and Vietnam veteran,
 Russell Warriner, in a debut novel.
Maine Teacher of the Year finalist, and Thornton Academy faculty member David Arenstam has just published his debut novel, “Homecoming: A Soldier's Story of Loyalty, Courage, and Redemption.” Two weeks after its publication, Arenstam’s novel was nominated for the 2017 William E. Colby award for emerging writers of military fiction or nonfiction. Arenstam, from Saco, recently completed the historical novel based on interviews and news stories written about Russell Warriner, a 68-year-old Vietnam veteran and Williamsburg native.

Learn what Jim uses at home and for his business that causes the least environmental caustic control with techniques that work. Feel free to bring sample weeds & insect pests and lots of questions.
